Update!

Hey Gang,

I trust everyone had a great long weekend. At long last I can say that the line art and coloring for Fol’klor #1 is officially finished. Whew! Makin’ comics is a lot of work.

We’re in the midst of some final revisions to the script and lettering in order to clarify some things, and I’m currently in the midst of figuring out how to set up the inside front and back cover and credits pages.

With luck this thing will be going off to the printers early next week.

Thanks for hanging in there with me!

In the meantime, keep an eye open for the third installment of MotherTrucker by Andy Belanger coming soon!  Follow the link! MotherTrucker 3

The Light of the End!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 12, 2023 at 03:38:51 AM

Hi Gang!

The line art for Fol’Klor is done! I’m currently working on the last couple of pages of colors which I’m expecting to have finished in a few days and then, after careful review and some final edits and with the help of my former R.A.I.D. studio mates who have been kind enough to help me set everything up properly for print, I’ll be sending this thing out to the printers and we can finally get it into your hands!

Thank you all for your continued patience and support. I know it’s been a long haul.

Before I go, I want to turn you on to Lethal Comics and Karl Kerschl’s latest effort…

A young woman with a strange gift travels the galaxy to help lost souls find their way home in this new sci-fi series from Eisner Award-winning artist Karl Kerschl."

In Karl’s own words, this is an homage to his love for the anime and manga he grew up with. With a variant cover from the amazing Matteo Scalara,  you cannot go wrong.

The End is Near!

Hey Gang!

First…

Sneak peek!

Second, we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This is starting to look like a real comic now! I’m getting pretty stoked to get this book out the door and into your hands.

The lettering is being done by the awesome Nate Bourgeault (@illumin8 on Instagram) and it’s already looking stellar. The Art Book is ready for printing, and the AR cover is being animated right now by Andrew Dorland (@drewdorland on Insta).

I decided to add 3-4 more pages of story to beef up a scene in the book that felt a little weak so instead of the planned 30 pages of story it’ll be 33 or 34 pages.

And check this out!

Exclusive Fol’Klor Trading Cards!

The RAID Studio is putting together Series 1 of an exclusive Trading Card set that will feature over 100 cards showcasing original concepts and characters from a variety of independent creators.

I’m happy to announce that I’ve partnered with RAID to produce some exclusive Fol’Klor cards that will be included in their base set, but we will also create two special foil enhanced cards that can only be unlocked if they hit their stretch goals. These rainbow-foil enhanced cards will feature Fol’Klor’s lovely heroine, Solntse, and the malevolent King Noch. Head on over to RAID’s campaign page and awaken the inner trading card collector in you.

I’m an @$$…

First off…

The work is being done, and the book will be coming out as soon as possible, I promise you. I have 6 pages left to finish up, the script is being lettered on the first half of the book, and we have an appointment with the printer next week. We’ll share the estimated time with you as soon as we know.

Secondly, I’d like to offer my sincerest apologies to all of you for neglecting this page for as long as I have. Life got messy in the last year with quite a few major upheavals, but excuses suck so I won’t bore you with the details. There isn’t an excuse as to why I’ve gone dark for so long; I completely understand your frustrations and the best I can do right now is to shut up and just get this book done.

As a gesture, I’d like to offer a Free Digital Copy of Fol’Klor #2 when it’s ready for everyone that backed the first campaign, regardless of whether you pledge again for the second one.

…and I absolutely will not do this to you guys again. It’s been varying degrees of hell for me as well and not how I like to work. I won’t launch a new campaign until the artwork on the second book is completely finished so for those that stick with me, you’ll get the second book as soon as I can get it printed and shipped. No waiting!

Finally, a word on coloring. I probably should not have attempted this. I am still quite new to working digitally… I stayed old school for a very long time while a lot of my peers have been using photoshop since it first came out. My only real experience with digital coloring was doing covers …and a cover would take me at least a week, if not longer to do. What I didn’t anticipate in coloring an entire book is that each panel pretty much became a cover. Add to that my woeful understanding of how to effectively use the ClipStudio program and you can start to imagine where I went wrong.

When doing covers, my work would eventually get to where it needed to be but the results would always come as a surprise, simply because I lacked the ability to properly manipulate the program to get it to do what I wanted it to do.

That doesn’t work for interior art. After several pages I realized that the colors were lacking harmony and they all over the place. I was also stupidly drawing one panel at a time and then coloring that panel… and then I’d draw the next one and then color that one… then I’d see that it wasn’t jiving, so I’d have to go back and change the first one. Stupid. It took a long time to nail down a reliable process but I am happy to report that I am getting halfway decent at this now.

Here’s a couple before and afters of my remastered pages. Hopefully you can see the difference in quality. It’s nice to be able to ”see” what I want in my head and then actually know how to pull it off rather than fumbling around and hoping for the best.

Thank you all for your kind understanding and patience with me. I will make this right!

And Happy New Year to you all! I will send a new update as soon as I hear from the printer next week and I’ll make sure to make regular posts going forward.

As always, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to support me. We are so close to being done and have ordered all the shipping materials so as soon as the books are ready we can have them to you guys as soon as possible.  For any Canadians we will be at Edmonton FanExpo and Capital City Comic Con if you want to swing by and say hi!

We have officially setup a weekly Whatnot livestream so you will be able to ask me questions through there and watch the process as I draw live. This is happening Thursdays around 5pm MST although some weeks may be at 4pm MST, such as tomorrows stream, to accommodate for appointments and other commitments. The details will be posted on Instagram and you can follow us here https://www.whatnot.com/live/5f6120f2-4be8-4ae2-93a6-d40fea9932f4 or with the username carynord. We will have some books for sale as well as maybe some live drawn commissions to bid on. We will also be launching a website soon so keep your eyes peeled for that!

In the meantime, the promo posters have arrived. We are so excited that things are finally getting here. Hope you enjoy!
